Group Product Manager

Purpose of the role

A Group Product Manager takes responsibility for the product management a subset of Redgate's portfolio where several products combine to form a cohesive solution or "product group".

About the role

A product manager with significant experience/skill who applies themselves to complex product management problems. Collaborates with senior peers and stakeholders, with minimal support, to drive forward the strategy for a part of Redgate's product portfolio.

A group product manager will be consistently doing/exhibiting most of the points below.

Skills

Leadership

  • Creates structure, organises and develops solution level product management team including personal development plans, wellbeing support, and team health.
  • Working with Product Division, Marketing and Sales Leadership on the future solution direction and intersection with key technology trends
  • Creates framework to elevate entire solution area, including Product Management, Solution Leadership and other functions within Product, Sales and Marketing.

Mentorship

  • Coaches product managers and helps them to develop towards Group Product Manager candidates.
  • Acts as company wide thought leader in specific solution area and for product management as a discipline.
  • Leads change programmes that evolve Redgate business.
  • Helps Senior Product Managers to develop their own strategy, investment proposals and gain exposure at the executive level.

Role-Specific

  • Technical proficiency required to exercise effective influence over the Product direction including negotiation with Product Division Leadership Team, Marketing and Sales leadership.
  • Understanding of data platforms and technology stack that software companies operate in
  • Understanding on how Redgate as whole is affected by Cloud platforms and trends around PaaS, SaaS and Containers, NoSQL and other disruptive technologies.
  • Deep understanding of technologies that components make up entire product portfolio and how other industry leaders structure their technical stacks.
  • Complement the Head of Product management to inspire the product portfolio vision and mission.
  • Builds an solution vision, future direction and the strategy kernel.
  • Works across the teams and function to scope, break down and deliver the long term vision.
  • Manage entire solution life cycle from investment case to shutting it down.

Communication

  • Lay out a compelling product strategy that includes a strong understanding customers , win in your market, differentiating as a product.
  • Communicate company level and solution level initiatives including ongoing solution strategies and any activities outside of traditional business as usual.
  • Drive customer engagements at the executive/senior level.
  • Lead product alignment across different solutions with other parts of business.
  • Create proposal and investment targets and communicates those the Exec team and Board.

Emotional Intelligence

  • Ability to assess team's maturity and modify approach based on the specific individuals they are working with.
  • Act as senior leader and provide support for team members as well as peers within and outside product management.
  • Ability to derive insight into what product managers strengths and areas of growth are and knowing how to leverage and nurture their talent.
  • Creating leverage that appeals to stakeholder that are critical to influence.

Delivery

  • Responsible for setting and tracking company level OKR and subset of company level metrics.
  • Responsible for the solution road map and solution level commercial performance.
  • Proven strong skills in stakeholder management and internal evangelism.
  • Track record in delivery when it comes to modern forms of product planning, customer discovery, product discovery, and product development process.

Business Knowledge

  • Defines the overarching commercial plan for the entire solution area.
  • Manages solution area P&L including any changes to investment, costs and revenue profile.
  • Develops growth plans in respective solutions areas including opportunities beyond current markets or products.
  • Analyses current trends, ecosystem shifts and acquisition opportunities to derive solution strategies.
  • Bringing new products to market with return-on-investment analysis.
  • Lead work on product pricing based on market research, production costs and anticipated demand.
